EMILY

Emily is the owner of Luminosity Hair. She has been behind the chair for 14 years and also spent a number of those years as an educator in color. Over the past decade she has honed in on her skills, while adding her own person flair. She enjoys doing natural looking color and cuts that are low-maintenance. Finding the perfect balance for you and your hair’s needs.

She really enjoys getting to know her clients on a personal level and is honored to be a small part in so many peoples’ lives.

You’ll also find the love-of-her-life, Frida, at the salon too. She is the salon mascot and will more than likely greet you at the door with a wagging tail.

Rachel

Rachel specializes in short cuts and natural, low maintenance cuts and colors.  She loves puzzles: working with cowlicks, bringing fullness to fine or thinning hair, and repairing cuts and colors that may have a checkered past.  She loves working to maximize all textures of hair, whether the hair is waist length, above the ear, or anywhere in between.  Having grown up in Oregon, she understands the necessity of weather-proof haircuts.  Her other passion is event styling, including updos, braids, curling iron sets and more.

Rachel began cutting hair in high school.  By time she was a freshman in college, she was cutting hair for most of her dorm.  Three weeks after graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, she enrolled in beauty school.  She had fallen in love with hair styling: getting to talk with all kinds of people, working with her hands, being creative… she loved everything about it.

After graduating beauty school she worked in a Pittsburgh salon for almost four years.  In those four years, Rachel jumped full force into the local, national and international industry.  She travelled with her salon to continuing education classes in Budapest, Lisbon and Los Angeles.  She also worked with local designers and merchandisers on photo shoots, including doing hair for Modcloth and for local runway shows.  She also dabbled in the competitive hair scene.  Some of her accomplishments include winning the Sebastian What’s Next Awards (a styling competition featuring stylists from all across North America) and winning a scholarship to the prestigious Sassoon Academy.  Following her wins, she began educating in salons and schools throughout Pennsylvania and New York representing Sebastian Professional and Wella.  As an educator she received training regularly in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York and Miami.  Highlights include doing hair for Christian Siriano at New York Fashion Week.

Rachel moved to Austin and spent four years at Jose Luis Salon.  In her early Texas years, she also taught classes across Texas, focusing on thinning hair, mens’ cuts and updos. She has continued to travel for her own education, including visiting the Sassoon Academy in Toronto in 2014, spending four days in London at the HOB Academy in 2015 and seeing the Croatian Zgat team in Sacramento in 2016.

When she’s not behind the chair, Rachel can be found walking, swimming and eating all over Austin with her husband, Richard, and her baby boy Samson.

My vision for Style Color Groom was born years ago, early in my career. I loved the idea of creating the “whole package” - encompassing not only your hairstyle but your healthy lifestyle, too.

Effortless, wash-and go hairstyles are my jam. I am a wash-and-go kinda gal myself and I wanted to share this ease of styling with my clients but not lose that finished look we are all striving for. I always said I loved hair that was a ‘cohesive mess.’ My cuts and colors work with your natural texture and your busy lifestyle.

We spend so much time worrying about what we are putting in our bodies, I wanted to be sure to pay attention to what we are putting on our bodies. I only use the cleanest, most organic, non-toxic products I can find.

I’m passionate about hair and I’m excited to share my love and passion with you.
